R&K Skyranch, Rochester, WA (8W9)
Correctly identified first by Dave Brown.
It might look like a faraway strip, and with not one but two grass runways it is a bit of a rarity, but it's really not far off the beaten path: R&K Skyranch is just southwest of Olympia. It's a public use airport, but if you look this odd little airport up in an airport directory, you will find something strange: "Landing Fee, Ramp Fee, Parking Fee, Tiedown Fee, Hangar Fee. No touch and go landings, no low passes below 2500 feet (!)." Really? Hmmmm....and in spite of all these "fees" and restrictions, it sounds like the place is a vertiable beehive of activity and filled with hazards: "Military Ops; RC Models; Aerobatics; Helicopter Ops; Ultralights; Agricultural Ops; Soaring." Reeeeeally? Gee, one might get the impression that visitors are not entirely welcome. Oh yeah, this too: "airport closed sundays."
Of course that just makes me want to go check it out myself sometime that much more. :)
