The major air facility of southern Vancouver Island, Victoria International is just a quick and easy hop over from the BC mainland - or from northwest Washington, too: Victoria is surprisingly close to the San Juan Islands. This photo, looking east on the approach for runway 09, shows Sidney Island and the waters of Haro Strait in the background, with the San Juan Islands in the distance just beyond.
That's salt water you see off the end of the runway.
