Hoskins Field 44T , Olympia, WA
Correctly identified first by Paul Anton
A neat, quiet little airport that's shoe-horned in among homes and condo developments east of Olympia. The airport has been in use since the early 1960s, but things are pretty quiet there these days -- my arrival appeared to be the first transient airplane that had landed there in weeks.
I asked if they welcomed transient visitors, or if they preferred that people stayed away. The response was quick and enthusiastic: they want people to use the airport. You are hereby invited and encouraged to come drop in for a visit.
There's not much there -- just a runway and a picnic area in the shade of tall evergreens -- but if you feel like getting some experience operating off a turf runway, this place is a perfect stop. There are some real interesting airplanes in the hangars, too -- this place has enough classic/homebuilt airplanes hidden away (all are hangared) to have their own EAA chapter.
The airport has a real old-days feeling to it. There used to be hundreds of little community airports just like this back in the golden era of general aviation, and when I touched down and rolled on that nice green grass, I felt like I had slipped back 50 years in time. Bring along a sandwich, enjoy a relaxing lunch, and let the soft grass tickle your airplane's wheels.
When I was there the runway was in absolutely beautiful condition. There are trees (and wires) right at the east end of the runway, but the west end is clear; you land eastbound, takeoff to the west, unless there's quite a wind blowing. The field sits within Olympia's Class Delta airpace, so of course you need to give them a call before coming and going.
I really enjoyed my visit there a lot, and encourage you to stop in there sometime.
