...For example, the contractor sent several days surveying the runway & taxiway. That's been done so many times before that it isn't even funny. Same old thing, every time there's a new project in the works...although I'll bet the runway hasn't moved an inch.

Then why do they change the numbers?  :)

I am completely open. Anything from a cub to a Mooney/Cirrus could work.

Ideally... get 4 to 6 people together and end up with 2 airplanes - something fun for low and slow local flights and then something for traveling.

I hate to limit the discussion on what is available or others are looking for.

At madras now.  I think the media scared everyone off. ....

Sometimes hype is good.

You might want to post what kind of airplane you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend.

You might Try  KMMV  (McMinnville) and yes,  it's in the path of totality  so you get the full effect 100%
The city owned airport , just released the plan for the eclipse, they are charging minimal prices for tie down ..something like $20- $30 Call FBO for reservation and details
The city and FBO  figure at the most 300 planes will come... (i think they greatly underestimated this,. we will see) , as of tonight there where only 3 Aircraft parked in the special tie down area.  The weather is forecast to be clear in the valley and as long as the wind stays from the north, we should not get smoke.

Be extra careful, as the main runway 04-22 is Closed for construction.  This leaves 17-35 as the only runway and there are limited taxi ways ...if  17 is in use,  you have to back taxi,  after landing on part of the active runway to get to parking on the other side of the field.... if a lot of aircraft come to land at the same time,  This will cause a disaster....,Hopefully the winds will remain out the north favoring 35 (arriving)  before the eclipse and favoring 17 after..
Just be aware,  depending on the winds,  the back taxi could be a major issue and safety problem as there is no tower

At madras now.  I think the media scared everyone off.  If fairly quiet, we saw no traffic in the roads today, getting into the airport was easy, and there is tons of food and porta potties.  Prices are low, and things are quiet and slow.

Thanks Erik! I'll be there before noon tomorrow - hopefully it doesn't get too bad before then.

I'll be flying into Madras too. Leaving RNT Sunday morning, with reservation # and slot time in hand. :) We're doing the self-contained thing also, except for the need for porta-potties.

NASA, in their lectures today, were not a fan of welding glass. They said if you use welding glass, at least #14,

A simple (not totally complete) test of your protection is to hold it up to a bright light bulb close. If you can see the light bulb it is not satisfactory. The sun is a really bright source.

They also suggested keeping finger prints off the shiny side of the protective film.

They were helping people make their very own protective eye ware.
