Florence 6S2 Overview
« on: May 27, 2014, 03:24:36 PM »
The Florence airport is just west of town, in a small bowl between dunes. The runway's a good asphalt surface, 3000x60, with right traffic for 15.  Pattern is out over the bay, and the approach into 15 brings you in over the dunes.  Neat place to land, or touch-n-go on the way up to Newport.   There's an active volunteer group who offer a courtesy car (beater 1980's era Jeep) and a few bikes.  It's about 2 miles to downtown so you'll want one or the other.  They're open until about 4pm so get there early.  The airport is close to the beach so it's susceptible to the usual fog and low clouds.  They put an AWOS-3 in here recently and you can call up for a weather report before departure.  Beats flying 30 minutes from the valley only to find the coast socked in.
Based in beautiful Creswell, Oregon (77S)
