Off topic, but that seems to be my MO.

I never realized that the data cards weren't simply SD/MMC cards.  How frustrating that companies feel the need to reinvent the wheel.  (Is selling data cards really the core business?)

Looks like Garmin is using those off the shelf cards on the newer units.

My understanding is with the new units, GTN series, you can't swap cards between units.  Each unit is married to one card.

If you saw the price of the datacards you might consider that they are part of the core business!

I can only speculate that it may have something to do with control and certification?
